Groove, class, elegance, and craftsmanship are non-negotiable in the world of the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio. They’re a given. If you take the warm soul spices of Booker T. & The M.G.’s or The Meters and add a few drops of Motown and Stax-style dynamism, this is the result. Or something very close to what organist Delvon Lamarr achieves on his Hammond B3, alongside guitarist Brice Calvin and drummer Ashley Ickes. Formed in Seattle ten years ago — with Jimmy James originally on guitar and David McGraw on drums — they may sound as if they’re rooted in the ’60s and ’70s, but that’s not entirely true. Their irresistible formula is, above all, as timeless as the finest classics.
