If you catch a snippet of a Brigitte Calls Me Baby song, you might momentarily experience a mental short-circuit: when did Morrissey replace Brandon Flowers as lead singer of The Killers? It’s an auditory hallucination, but it makes perfect sense. The music of this Chicago quintet, led by Wes Leavins and his distinctive voice, embodies all the theatricality and well-judged intensity of that unlikely mix. Even Moz seems to see himself in their sound: they were the support act at some of his concerts this spring.
In these cynical times, Brigitte Calls Me Baby are a miracle: a band unafraid of revealing their emotions. Their songs, topped off with bigger than life choruses, act as catalysts for feelings: their two albums to date, The Future is Our Way Out and the recently released Irreversible, do not, at any time, shy away from pop-rock passion.
