Listening to Alosa’s debut album, El primer cant del matí, one cannot help but feel that Giulietta Vidal and Irene Romo are the bearers of an atavistic, almost ancestral message. The songs of this Barcelona-based duo seem to have been passed down from generation to generation until reaching the present day, driven by the magic of word of mouth: their unique take on Catalan folklore resonates so organically and naturally that it never has that all-too-familiar trace of contrived tradition. El primer cant del matí overflows with truth sung in two voices. In that regard, the connection with Tarta Relena – who also feature on the album – is undeniable.
After presenting their debut album at over sixty concerts, mainly throughout the Catalan-speaking region but also in France, Italy and the UK, Alosa are preparing to bring this first period of their career to a close with a tour finale that will take place on 17th February at Sala Apolo in Barcelona.
