MIRRORSTROKE transforms La [3] into a suspended script by Alicia Gimeno

The installation MIRRORSTROKE, by Barcelona-based artist Alicia Gimeno, transforms La [3] into a suspended space where line becomes matter and gesture. Through a constellation of floating forms, the piece explores an expanded form of calligraphy that leaves the page to inhabit the air. These strokes, turned into reflective objects, capture light, movement and fragments of the surrounding space, generating a living and ever-changing presence.

Hovering above the audience, the forms appear as handwritten marks frozen in time—a choreography of mirrored lines that activates with every movement of the viewer. The installation constantly evolves depending on one’s position and the shifting atmosphere of the room, revealing a perceptual dimension in which the work is not fixed but relational. Each reflection introduces a new reading, a fragment that breaks apart and reshapes the environment.

Gimeno’s practice sits at the intersection of painting and sculpture, exploring the expressive possibilities of line through an essential visual language. Trained in graphic design during her time in Mexico, her work draws from influences of Eastern calligraphy: minimal strokes, restrained gestures and an organic abstraction that often evokes the botanical without depicting it literally. In MIRRORSTROKE, this sensibility unfolds into a suspended landscape where gesture becomes spatial experience.

Art Meets Apolo, a living bridge between art and clubbing
The installation is part of Art Meets Apolo, a multidisciplinary exhibition project that connects art and clubbing through the perspectives of Barcelona-based and resident artists. Previous contributors to the series include Pedro Torres, Mónica Rikić, Jordi Gispert Pi, Alba Rihe, Sejal Parekh, Milica Lukic, Miroslav Perković, Andrei Warren, Antoni Miralda, Anna Carreras, Oscar Zabala and Martín Vitaliti.

The project is developed in collaboration with LAB36 and Galeria Senda, building connections between two worlds that share audiences, working methods and experiences, with a common goal: to strengthen and give visibility to local culture.
