As every December, La Gran Xefla returns to the Apolo. This year, hosts Fetus will share the night with long-time friends Les Testarudes, ensuring that Xefla will be more Xefla than ever.
Fetus close the tour of their fifth album, "Cànntir nou fa aigua fresca", at the Apolo. They have continued to build their unique bridge between garage punk-rock, roots sounds and tavern songs. An album washed down with ratafia and rich in chefles, where sacred books burn and they put their finger in the eye when necessary. Produced once again by Joan Colomo, this acclaimed album follows on from the acclaimed ‘Sota, cavall i rei’ (2021) and ‘La Serra dels Perduts’ (2022). Fetus are Adrià Cortadellas (vocals and guitar), Telm Terradas (bass) and Adrià Jiménez (drums), well accompanied by Guillem Caballero (keyboards), Ricard Ros (whistles), Marta Barbero (violin) and Carles Belda (diatonic accordion).
Les Testarudes are nine women, between 20 and 27 years old, from different parts of the country, whose epicentre is the Barcelona neighbourhood of La Bordeta. The project was born out of the need to create their own space within styles traditionally dominated by men, such as ska, rocksteady and reggae. The Testarudes want to make the image of women on stage more visible, as well as offer a space for learning and knowledge about women performers and composers in Jamaican musical culture. The group offered its first concert in May 2023 and since then its concert schedule has not stopped growing, offering more than sixty performances throughout Catalonia. Among the most outstanding ones we can mention their participation in the two concerts of Dr. Calypso in the Sala Paral-lel 62 in Barcelona, in the Black Music Festival in Girona, or in the Alerta Fest in the Poble Espanyol in Barcelona in front of 4,000 people. If initially their repertoire was made up of some of their favourite songs by admired artists, they now present their own material with their debut album “La Prèvia”, released in January 2025.
