FM Poble-sec: Guided visits Sala Apolo

Did you know that before becoming a concert venue, Apolo was an indoor amusement park? Or that it has also been a ballroom, a bingo hall, a roller-skating rink and a nightclub?

As part of the Poble-sec Festival, we invite you to discover the history of one of Barcelona’s most iconic cultural venues and the neighbourhood that has seen it grow.

The tour will begin in the Hall with a presentation by the Centre de Recerca Històrica del Poble-sec (CERHISEC), tracing Apolo’s journey in Paral·lel and Poble-sec through archival images, from its beginnings to the present day. A journey through the history of a space that has accompanied the city’s cultural transformations for more than a century.

The venue’s Head of Production will then lead a tour through some of its most distinctive spaces: Sala Apolo, La (2), La (3), CINC and the backstage dressing rooms. Through stories, anecdotes and curiosities, we will discover what happens behind the scenes and how a venue that forms part of Barcelona’s living cultural heritage operates.

Along the way, we will also learn how a former indoor amusement park became one of the city’s most iconic venues, hosting artists such as Coldplay, Interpol, The Killers, Justice and Aphex Twin, and witnessing the birth of influential projects such as Nitsa, Sónar and Primavera Sound.
