This year 2017 celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the publication of the most recognized work of the legendary reggae band
Culture, “ ”. Next autumn we will have the opportunity of traveling in time to the golden age of Reggae and see for ourselves the importance of this genre still has in our days. “ Two Seven Clash ” it’s without a doubt one of the best reggae albums ever recorded and the only reggae album that appeared, place 25 of 50, amongst the “coolest” albums of the past 30 years according to Two Seven Clash Rolling Stones magazine (11 April 2002). Joseph Hill started Culture, after being a member of African Disciples, more than 45 years ago. This seeding trio of reggae music, that has got around 30 albums published –the most recent World Peace (2003) -, in charge of the vocal harmonies were his cousin Albert Walker and Kenneth , that would leave his place to Daves Telford Nelson in the ninetys.
In 1972, Hill got together with the
Soul Defenders to work side by side, in the iconic Studio One run by producer Coxsone Dodd, with Dennis Brown, Burning Spear and Freddy McKay. Culture recorded a bunch of powerful songs with Joe Gibbs, with the help of their prominent figure, the engineer Errol Thompson. After this, there would be the different albums with the producer Sonia Pottinger. Already at that time, in 1977, their apocalyptic (inspired by the prophecies of Two Sevens Clash Marcus Garvey, and supposedly the title that would have suggested Joe Strummer the name for his band) made them very popular at Jamaica as well as at the United Kingdom.
During the political violence that were shacking Jamaica,
Culture recorded , and in 1978 their show was one of the most memorable in the peace concert Stop Fussing and Fighting One Love, in which Bob Marley and Peter Tosh took part.
The year 2017 will see
CULTURE featuring Kenyatta Hill constantly on tour all around the planet, in commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the publication of the album , still playing in all radios around the world. Two Sevens Clash
